Katrin Maier

Katrin makes functional ceramics to be used in daily life. The pots she makes are often variations of simple bowl forms with steep walls. They curl under at the base and disappear in their own shadow to create a feeling of floating.

The making process and the raw materials are important to Katrin and she deliberately leaves marks of her fingers, tools and brushes in the finished pieces, and shows layers of clay, slips and oxides on unglazed surfaces.

The stripped-back colour palette and textures of her current work is inspired by weathering processes, rocks, and bare, wide landscapes.
