Lilly Maetzig is the maker behind Mae Ceramics, which started in New Zealand and moved to London in 2016. 

She is based in London, living and working in South East London in a beautiful studio on the banks of the Thames.

Lilly’s practice is mostly wheel thrown, with the occasional slab built piece as seen in her Weirdo vases. Lilly has a minimal aesthetic with sharp lines and a limited colour palette. However, sometimes she strays from what is clean and tidy, with the occasional playful glaze or doodle.

Lilly plays with the application of glaze in her work – sometimes fully glazed, a glazed interior | exterior or half-dipped. This explores the contrast between the texture of raw and glazed clay, and lets the natural qualities show through on the surface of a finished piece.
